N2  - During the 1995 hurricane sesson, a major landslide occurred in one of the sub-watersheds of the Layou River.  That slide, which is often referred to as"The Carholm Slide" occurred in an area where other landslides had occurred in the recent past.  As a result all the major pools in the Layou River, downstream of the landslide have become heavily silted by the sediments from that slide.  The village of Layou, which is located near the river's mouth and on the northern bank continues to be under threat from severe flooding as a result of the existing conditions of the river
