520 _aThe covers the occupancy of wetland's in Dominica. Freshwater wetlands occur in both coastal and mountainous areas of the island. There are four types of freshwater wetlands associations, three of which are forested and one is dominated by herbaceous vegetation. Saltwater forested wetlands (mangroves) are poorly represented (small patches of a few trees). Coastal wetlands (fresh-and saltwater) are threatened by human activity, whereas those in the mountains are legally protected (located in the National Park). There is great need for some protective measures to be undertaken to preserve Dominica's few wetland resources.
