Jones, Vanya S.

Social and economic imperatives for the consolidation of small rural schools in Dominica - School of Education UWI St. Augustine 1997 - vi, 75 p. tbls.

The purpose of the study was to investigate factors initiating the consolidation of small schools in Dominica. A descriptive survey method was used to obtain the life opinions of stakeholders (teachers, parents and students) of the Roseau Valley and that of Ministry Officials from the Ministry of Education; on the issues of school consolidation. Results showed that teachers, students (and Ministry Officials) viewed school consolidation as having advantages, most important of these being less multigrade teaching and providing a better quality of education, for the rural school children. Many feared the increased cost that would be incurred by parents through transportation. (Extracted from document).
