The report seeks to document some of the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the landslides and floods of 18th and 25th November 1997 which occurred in the Carholm area. The landslides and floods had appreciable socio-economic impact on the lives of Dominicans within the Layou River Valley and beyond. The Ministry of Agriculture sees the event as a cause for serious concern and will continue with close monitoring, particularly during the hurricane season. The Layou Matthieu-Carholm Disaster is not to be treated casually.
