Identifies opportunities to contribute to health reform objectives through reviewing and modifying mechanisms of funding and remuneration, which are referred to as Provider Payment Mechanism (PPM). Builds on prior work in the Region of the Americas where policy makers in the area of health financing shared their experiences in introducing modifications of PPM and identified lessons to be learned from positive and negative aspects in their experiences. Proposes steps that can be taken if countries decide to modify their provider payment systems, and recommends a specific country analysis, with quantitative information, to inform decision and precede implementation of modifications.
