Report on the situation of human rights in Haiti - OAS Washington D.C. May 8 1990 - 63 p.

Examines the human rights situation in that region against the background of events since February 1988. In discussing the electoral process, the report concludes that hurdles to the exercise are substantial. Violations of the right of life and to humane treatment are listed together with circumstances surrounding these violations. Perpetrators include the army, the police and paramilitary groups, e.g., Tonton Macoutes. Violations of the right to personal liberty and judicial guarantees are listed. Some recommendations include the imposition of sanctions by the guarantee of safety to the media in the exercise of the right of freedom of expression.
