Performance of a solar box dryer for drying timber in the tropics - Technical Information Service Bangkok July 1992 - 7 p. tbls.

The design and construction of a box-type solar dryer is described. Preliminary results obtained with the box empty showed that temperatures of up to 64*C, suitable for drying a variety of forest and marine products could be obtained. The performance of the solar dryer to dry fresh-sawn timber planks was evaluated. The results showed that the solar dryer was able to dry timber faster and to a lower moisture content than conventional open air drying.
