Traces the development of agricultural extension services in the English-Speaking Caribbean. The historical and cultural roots of extension diversity are looked at from its origin in the establishment of Botanic Gardens to the present day `saturation' model which has been forced on Caribbean countries as a result of aid patterns. The development of this model and its adaptation within islands are discussed. The common constraining patterns of extension services in the region in the areas of clarity of objectives, technical, organizational and administrative weaknesses as well as inefficient support resources are discussed. |
