In this paper, the production, sustainability and the formulation of appropriate technology for the fuelwood conservation, conversion and utilisation for rural industries, including plantation are described in detail. The forest policies followed in India is reviewed critically. Major policy recommendations for the sustainable development of fuelwood for rural industries are given. The necessary research and development efforts to fulfil the goals taking into account integration action plans are projected.
