Reports on an exploratory study into government and non-government citizenship education programmes in Guyana that forms part of the Commonwealth Secretariat project on citizenship which examine the ways in which values are transmitted in society. <br/><br/> Describes the methodology employed, target audience and gives a brief geographic and historical perspective of Guyana. Provides summaries of presentations of educational programmes from government, NGO's religious, women and youth organisations. Also covers the Community Based Rehabilitation Programme (CBR) which focuses on persons with disabilities and human right programmes with the formal and informal sector. <br/><br/>Indicates that citizenship education is promoted universally across Guyana using various modes, strategies and conventions through direct, indirect, overt or covert means. States that insufficient knowledge sharing hinders cost-sharing and effective use of available resources. It outlines emerging issues on the way forward and presents participants perception of the way forward. |
